For over a decade, Meta has been focused on reporting on its environmental impact. Our efforts to accurately understand our impact helps us more efficiently chart a course of action to minimize our emissions, as well as the energy and water used to power our business, products and workplaces—while protecting workers and the environment in our supply chain.
While we continue to collaborate with community members, climate action leaders and scientists to innovate beyond what we know is possible today, we do so knowing that doing our best means we won’t be able to do it alone. In all of our efforts, we know that leveraging our core products and services to enable access to climate science information will help accelerate action-oriented resources for tomorrow.
With our size, influence and global reach, it’s our responsibility to drive sustainable change across everything we do. With that, we’re proud to share our 2023 Sustainability Report and a progress update on our climate commitments in Our Path to Net Zero.
At Meta, we’re laser-focused on giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together but in today’s changing climate, that does not come with ease. This report details our progress in 2022 and looks to the challenges facing us in 2023 and beyond.
Highlights include:
- Maintaining net zero emissions and 100% renewable energy in our global operations.
- Progressing towards our water positive goal in 2030 by restoring 621 million gallons of water to high and medium water stressed regions.
- Contracting 10,000 MW of renewable energy projects.
- Aligning our work around responsible sourcing and labor by sharing our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement & Conflict Minerals Report.
- Completing our biggest ever global survey analyzing public views towards climate change in partnership with researchers at the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.
This year’s report was prepared in reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards with guidance from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Internet and Media Services Industry Standards, the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
