META SUSTAINABILITY

Connecting to a better reality

We believe sustainability is about more than operating responsibly. It is an opportunity to support the communities we are a part of and have a positive impact on the world.

2025 Sustainability Report

Learn more about our progress as we work to achieve net zero emissions across our value chain and become water positive in 2030.

Connection is our business: and our sustainability commitment connects the world to a better reality.

At Meta, our mission is to build the future of human connection and the technology that makes it possible.

It’s not just about us: the work Meta is doing today connects our collaborators, peers and communities to a reality where we can partner on sustainable solutions. With this work, and alongside our partners, we are:

  • Working with suppliers committed to net zero, procuring clean and renewable energy and developing technology to support a climate resilient global community
  • Working to restore more water than we consume
  • Promoting safe, healthy and fair working conditions across the value chain
  • Restoring native habitats to encourage biodiverse ecosystems

Our approach to responsible AI

We are also committed to long-term solutions. AI is driving growth across the company, which is driving increased demand for energy and water. By using AI responsibly, we aim to scale solutions that help Meta and our peers operate more efficiently and sustainably in the long run.

Our approach

Our strategy is centered around our approach to managing our impact on climate, water, supply chain responsibility and biodiversity.

Climate

Decarbonizing our business is a critical step for Meta to do our part in connecting to a healthier planet, more resilient communities and a net zero reality. In our effort to achieve net zero emissions, Meta is focused on:

  • Fully understanding and effectively managing our emissions through comprehensive data and advanced tooling.
  • Reducing GHG emissions across our global operations and value chain by employing low carbon building materials, investing in clean and renewable energy, and engaging with suppliers.
  • Removing any residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors that remain in 2030.

Water

Water is a vital resource for life on earth, and we strive to connect its management to technical expertise and responsibility that help ensure healthy aquatic ecosystems. Our goal is to be water positive in 2030. This means that Meta will return more water than we consume in our operations through water restoration initiatives that address shared water challenges and support water stewardship in the watersheds where we operate.

Meta’s water stewardship measures include:

  • Minimizing water use and implementing long term resilience measures.
  • Transparency on progress toward our 2030 goal.
  • Water restoration projects that restore habitats, boost supply and reliability, enhance quality and provide safe drinking water.

Responsible Supply Chain

Meta is part of a complex value chain that impacts lives and communities around the globe. Our Responsible Supply Chain (RSC) program strives to empower workers and protect the environment through open and frequent communication with our suppliers, initiatives that support safe, healthy and fair working conditions and a deep understanding of core sustainability issues.

Biodiversity

We are committed to supporting biodiversity at our data center properties. Since 2023, our standard design dedicates the vast majority of unbuilt outdoor spaces to restore native habitat and largely eliminates turf and exotic ornamental species. By 2024, the focus on preservation and restoration practices was programmatically connected to each step of data center development: diligence, planning, design, construction and operation. Meta is committed to playing a positive role and investing in the long-term vitality of the communities in which we operate our data centers.

We also prioritize partnering with local and national non-profits to support community biodiversity projects.

Goals

Our core sustainability strategy is informed by our goals to achieve net zero emissions across our value chain and to become water positive in 2030.
