Meta launches 2024 Sustainability Report

This year, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the launch of Facebook, celebrating how Meta has given people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. We have challenged ourselves to do this sustainably, building better realities — and not just virtual ones.

At Meta, we believe sustainability is about more than operating responsibly; it is an opportunity to support the communities we are part of and have a positive impact on the world.

Our annual Sustainability Report outlines our progress to address our emissions, as well as the energy and water used to power our business, products and workplaces — while protecting workers and the environment in our supply chain.

With that, we’re proud to share our 2024 Sustainability Report.

Highlights from our 2024 report include:

Since 2020, we have maintained net zero emissions in our global operations. To achieve and maintain this commitment, we reduced our emissions by 94% from a 2017 baseline primarily by matching 100% of our electricity use with renewable energy. At the end of 2023, our portfolio included over 11.7 GW of contracted renewable energy, making Meta one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy globally.
Our 18 operational water restoration projects returned 1.5 billion gallons of water to high and medium water stress regions as part of our water positive goal to restore more water overall than we consume in 2030.
By the end of 2023, 28% of our suppliers, based on their contribution to Meta’s emissions, have set science-aligned emissions reduction targets.
We set a science-based emissions reduction target and roadmapped a decarbonization strategy to systematically transform the way we do business.

Working toward sustainable climate solutions is a cross-industry effort. Our collaborations underpin how we operate and what we create — we know it will take everyone working together to make the systems level changes required to build a climate-resilient better reality: sustainability experts, researchers, local utilities, nonprofit organizations, and our employees. This is how we will protect the wellbeing of people and our planet, and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
